Grace Baptist Church began in the basement meeting room of the Fairview Motel in 1996. Wally Higgins was the founding pastor and was soon followed by Brian Rager. Jay Sprecher, who pastored in Mountain View, continued the meetings in the Fossil Museum on Sunday afternoons after the Ragers moved. In April of 2002 Larry and Carolyn Hultquist, recently returned from ministry in Peru, came to Kemmerer to minister. They continued in the Fossil Museum for a time, then moved services to their home. In 2006 remodeling of a gas station on Pine Avenue began under the leadership of Vern Cherni. Several teams and individuals both local and from out of town put in much work to see the building completed. On March 27, 2008 the final inspection was done and permission to use the church building was granted. The first service in the new building was Sunday, March 30, 2008 with 12 in attendance. Three days later Pastor Larry passed away. God allowed him to see his vision for an Independent Baptist Church in Kemmerer, WY. God used the Adank and Acree families from Utah to continue services until the church called Richard Hartman as pastor. He has been serving since June 2012.
